Life on ice

Brighton-based Robin was European and Olympic Champion in 1980 and won three World Free skating Gold medals in 1978, 1979 and 1980, in addition to being three-time World Professional Champion.
He made his professional show debut with Holiday on Ice in 1980 and made his final performance with Holiday on Ice in Brighton in 2000
He has worked for the BBC as a commentator for major skating championships and will be in Vancouver for the upcoming Olympics.
On stage Robin has starred in CATS, as FrankNFurter in The Rocky Horror Show, Jack Frost in Santa Claus and the return of Jack Frost.

What one item cant you do without, and why?
My skates. They are a lifeline of sorts and besides needing them for work I like to just get on the ice for no other reason than to keep my feet wet and skate for the pure pleasure of it.

What was the last thing you bought?
New kitchen cabinets, which will be installed in the coming few weeks.

What was the last book you read?
When You Are Engulfed in Flames by David Sedaris. Its a brutally honest and extremely funny episodic account of his life and family.

If you could only listen to one album again, which would it be?
This question reminds me why I need to make a compilation mix CD, that would include Philip Glass, Annie Lennox, Bitter:Sweet, Diana Krall, George Winston and Gare Du Nord among others.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be?
A song and dance man like Gene Kelly. He had such a natural impulsive feel to his dancing, plus he got to dance with Cyd Charisse!

What achievement are you most proud of?
Being able to put my Olympic Gold Medal in my parents hands. They had made it all possible and while they would never use the word sacrifice, they gave up a lot and we as a family had done it all as a team effort.
