They entertain us over our cereal and during our drive to work with all the news, gossip and music needed to ease us into a morning. They are Sussex breakfast DJs. But what time must they get up to be on air? How many cups of coffee does it take to get them going? And what happens if they oversleep? Jo Steele found out...

Neil Pringle

Host of Sussex Breakfast

on BBC Sussex

How many cups of coffee does it take to get you going?

About 5 mugs of tea and 3 mugs of coffee. I have to go to the loo quite often too.

How do you always know what to

say next?

When in doubt give a time check.

Whats the most hilarious/memorable comment made by a member of the public on your show?

I used to take calls live onto the air from the switchboard as people entered a quiz. I answered one chaps call and before I had a chance to say anything he started to sell me double glazing hed called the radio station by mistake.

What would you be if you werent a radio presenter?

The word unemployed springs to mind.

Tom Evans, Lynsey Bartlett and Jack The Lad

Hosts of Heart Breakfast on

Heart Sussex

What do you eat for breakfast?

L: Toast and marmite please.

T: Scrambled eggs and baked beans

What do you wear on air?

J: I put on whatever I find lying on the floor next to my bed in the morning

Have you ever overslept?

L: I have once. You only ever do it once.

Its such a horrible feeling when you see the time and realise youre late.

Luckily the show can go on regardless as theres three of us.

Who was your most memorable interview with?

T: It would have to be Peter Andre.

He had just broken up with Katie Price and he came on the show to

set the record straight.

We got the exclusive!

Guy Lloyd and Andrea Fox

Hosts of Breakfast with Guy and Andrea, Juice 107.2.

What is the best and worst part of your job?

A: The best part is getting to be one of the first people awake in the city, hearing from listeners and getting people ready for their day, meeting interesting and sometimes famous people.

The worst part is being one of the first people awake in the city.

What do you wear on air?

G: Tuxedo. Its important to be smart, even on the radio. My mum taught me that.

A: Pyjamas, which sometimes freaks out the guests.

Whats the most hilarious or memorable comment made by a member of the public on your show?

G: I remember the woman that called from her bath. She sounded very relaxed. Who calls radio stations from their bath?

What time do you get up/go to bed?

G: 4am /after Desperate Housewives

A: When I get tired, but an afternoon nap is essential.

Nick Osborne

Host of Splash FM Breakfast

on Splash FM

What is the best and worst part of your job?

The best part is getting to speak to the people of Worthing every morning. The worst part is the expense of alarm clocks, just in case! I have three and counting...

What do you eat for breakfast?

I should probably say something like grapefruit or All Bran but the reality is much more likely to be a bacon sandwich!

Whats the most memorable comment made by a member of the public on your show?

A caller once narrowly missed out on winning a large supply of food and goodies from a pet shop.

His reply was Oh well, not to worry, my dog got run over a while back! What do you say to that?

What is your typical day?

Get up, cycle to work, do the show, prep the show for the next day meetings etc. Then home for some much needed beauty sleep.

Kevin King

Host of Kevin King at Breakfast

on Spirit FM

What is the best and worst part of your job?

The best part is remembering that my hobby is my job!

The worst part the sound of my alarm at 4.30am (if I hear the same sound at any time through the day it sends a cold shiver down my back)

How do you always know what to say next?

Err

Whats the most hilarious/memorable comment made by a member of the public on your show?

I ran a quiz called the Alphabet Game where the contestant chose a letter and the answer began with that letter. One morning a woman chose G.

The question was Val Doonican sang about Paddy McGinties what?

The answer should have been goat but she shouted is it goolies? I thought I was going to bust a blood vessel with laughing so much!

Anna Bingham and

Chris Bailey

Hosts of Bailey @ Breakfast on Bright FM

How many cups of coffee does it take to get you going?

C: The first mug of tea is vital and I cant operate without it. If I ever arrive at work and theres no milk in the fridge were doomed.

A: One giant one! Without it, it just wouldnt be possible. Very milky, very sweet very large and very very strong!

What is the best part of your job?

A: The best part is the ridiculousness of it all - we get paid to talk and listen to music! (not really, its a lot of hard work!).

Whats the most hilarious/memorable comment made by a member of the public on your show?

C: One April Fools Day we announced that Michael Jackson was planning to perform an open air concert at the Hickstead Showground. The radio station phone lines were jammed with enquiries.

Fortunately, all of our listeners saw the funny side.

What is your typical day?

A: There is no typical day.

There are of course bits and pieces and planning that needs to get done every day, but depending on the calls, the news, the emails (the tiredness and therefore crazy ideas), no two days are the same.

Simon Rose

Host of Sovereign FM Breakfast on Sovereign FM

What is the best part of your job?

The best thing has to be the buzz you get when youre playing some great songs and the shows going well.

What do you eat for breakfast?

I get very hungry during the show. I have cereal to start the day, a snack around 8.30am and by 10am I will have eaten half my lunch.

What do you wear on air?

It must be comfortable, typically jeans and a sweatshirt. I like to take my shoes and socks off and let the air conditioning circulate around my toes.

Have you ever overslept? What happened to your show?

No, I have three alarm clocks and the alarm on my mobile phone so I would find it very hard to oversleep.

Andy Knight

Host of Arrow FM Breakfast,

Arrow FM

What time do you get up/go to bed?

I get up at 4.15am and usually go to bed around 10.30pm, sometimes later! I really should go to bed much earlier than I do, I keep on promising myself an early night.

How many cups of coffee does it take to get you going?

I have one before I go on air and a couple more during the show.

Thats normally enough to keep me going, although Red Bull later in the day stops me falling asleep at my desk!.

What do you eat for breakfast?

I dont eat anything until I come off air, its a bowl of cereal at 10am!

I enjoyed it when it was Farmhouse Breakfast Week.

I had someone come in to cook me a fried breakfast made with Sussex produce.
