Astronaut Tim Peake becomes the first official British astronaut to fly to the International Space Station and the first in space for more than 20 years

On Tuesday 15 December 2015, Tim Peake became the first official British astronaut to fly to and board the International Space Station. News and social media were all over the story for a large part of the day and we’ve rounded up some of the best bits...

The man himself was ready and raring to go...

Each crew member was given a chance to listen to their favourite tunes before they headed up. A very strong choice from Tim!

Her Majesty sent a wonderful good luck message.

Then came that emotional goodbye...

It was then time to set off on the trip of a lifetime!

People were very proud of this huge leap for British space travel.

After a six-hour trip, Tim Peake made history and boarded the International Space Station.

The British then showed their sense of humour!

And some more...

The tea situation actually became a bigger deal than the whole ‘British man goes to space’ thing...

But before he got to work, Major Tim Peake did what anyone would do when they go away for a while - phone their mum

We’ll be keeping up-to-date with all of Tim’s work whilst he’s up in the sky, and you can too...
