TORRENTIAL rain failed to dampen spirits at the Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup at Cowdray Park with Zacara and Les Lions finally making it to the final after a gruelling four week long British Open Championship.
Huge support was shown for Les Lions, the team of Joachim Gotschalk who has been on the quest for the most coveted trophy in polo since 1993. Businessman Lyndon Lea, with his team Zacara, has entered the Championship every year since 1995.
The rain finally stopped as play got underway and one of the most exciting finals for years ended 12-11 in Zacaras favour. While Jo Gottschalks dream of hoisting the Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup melted away, Lyndon Leas side erupted into celebrations.
The trophy was presented by Sabina Belli, General Manager International of Veuve Clicquot. Lyndon Lea also received a Salmanazar of champagne equivalent to 12 bottles from Jo Thornton, the Managing Director of Moet Hennessy UK Ltd.
