The Princess Royal joined 150 guests of the Blond McIndoe Research Foundation to celebrate 50 years of ground-breaking research at Meridian Hall in East Grinstead.

The Princess unveiled a wonderful picture, Immortal Hero, donated to the foundation by David Shepherd CBE before moving amongst the invited guests to talk to members of the Guinea Pig Club, Sir Archibald McIndoe's family, Dame Vera Lynn, trustees, patrons, staff and supporters.

The finale of the celebration was an amazing display and fly past by The Grace Spitfire, flown by Caroline Grace. The plane was built in 1944 and saw 12 months of active service at the end of WWII.

As the plane flew through blue skies, the Princess watched from the terrace with the Chief Executive, Jacquie Pinney, and Dennis Smith a surviving WWII Spitfire Pilot from East Grinstead.
