Sussex Community Foundation celebrated its fifth anniversary at a special event held at Pangdean near Brighton.

Guests represented a wide cross-section of people involved with the Foundation including donors, grant recipients, local authorities and professional advisors.

Opening the event, Peter Field, Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex and Joint President of the Foundation, said how rapidly the charity had grown. Since being set up by the Duke of Richmond in 2006 the Foundation has now awarded 3.7m of grants to over 1,700 local groups and built up a permanent endowment of 3.5m.

Groups funded by the Foundation had been invited to enter a photo competition. Guests at the event voted for their favourite with Rotherfield St Martin winning the top prize of 300 for the group.

Sponsor for the evening was Rathbones, a company with a long history of philanthropy and a close relationship with many community foundations around the UK.
