The 24th annual Sussex Business Awards launched all over the county with three separate events in Crawley, Eastbourne and Brighton.

The 24th annual Sussex Business Awards launched all over the county with three separate events in Crawley, Eastbourne and Brighton.


In Crawley, Nick Handley, chair of Sussex Enterprise, the joint sponsor of The Small Business of the Year Award this year (with Deloitte), chaired a short Q&A session with previous Sussex Business Award winners including Andrew Kay, from The Brighton & Hove Food and Drink Festival, winner of The Award for Leisure & Tourism in 2011, and Jane Wilkinson, Leaders Limited, the 2010 Sussex Company of the Year.


In Eastbourne, Martin Searle from Federation of Small Businesses, the sponsor of The Entrepreneur of the Year Award, chaired the Q&A session with last years Businessperson of the Year, Jonathan Dow of Club Class Chauffeurs, and Checkatrades Kevin Byrne, the Entrepreneur of the Year in 2011. The Eastbourne event was attended by the Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Mike Thompson, as well as the Chairman of the Judges, Her Majestys Lord Lieutenant for East Sussex, Peter Field.


Fiona Shafer, director of MD Hub, took the Brighton chair with the 2011 winner of the Most Promising New Business, James Burton, from Qualifa, and Nicki Perry, human resources manager at Domestic and General, who won The Healthiest Workplace Award last year.


There are 15 trophies up for grabs including The Award for Leisure & Tourism which is sponsored by Sussex Life. Sussex companies have until 31 August to prepare their applications for a chance to triumph at the most prestigious business awards in the county.
