The immaculate grass courts of the Devonshire Park Lawn Tennis Club again provided the setting for a week of glorious sunshine and first-class tennis.

Once regarded as a pre-Wimbledon warm-up for female players, the Aegon International is now firmly established in its own right as a leading fixture on the Lawn Tennis Association calendar for both men and women.
The years event attracted a record number of spectators hoping for a glimpse of their tennis heroes and heroines and they were not disappointed as international stars mingled with the crowds and posed for photographs.
Eastbournes Mayor Cllr Carolyn Heaps was in centre court to watch Ekaterina Makarova edge to victory over Victoria Azarenka and present the delighted Russian with a silver rose bowl and a cheque for $98,500. Tournament Director, Gavin Fletcher said Aegon 2010 had been a great success and we'll now start working towards the 2011 event and look forward to welcoming Sussex Life readers to this truly international sporting event.
