Much Ado Books, one of the UKs leading independent bookshops, has just moved to expanded premises at 8 West Street, Alfriston.
Deborah Devonshire, Dowager Duchess of Devonshire opened the new shop, owned by Cate Olson and Nash Robbins.
There were about 150 guests including Lord Healey, Lord Hutchinson, Lynne Truss, Juliet Nicolson, and editors and publishers from the UK and overseas. Many of the guests purchased Deborah Devonshires newly-published memoirs Wait for Me! and she signed copies for nearly an hour.
The new shop, spread over two floors, displays thousands of books, which range from first novels, fine press books and an excellent selection on crime, to fashion and jewellery, as well as choice old and antiquarian rarities.
The new premises also include a 140 year old barn that provides an area for classes, events, talks and cookery demonstrations.
