Tails were wagging in Freshwater Square, Willingdon, as nearly 101 dogs and their owners arrived to welcome animal-loving Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd for the opening of Montys pet & garden shop and a traditional family fun day of splat the rat, hook the duck, face-painting and guess the name of the meerkat in support of local animal charities.

Thanks to the generosity of local residents, businesses, Waitrose, Tesco, Sainsbury's and the Co-op, over 1,000 was raised for East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service, the Kit Wilson Trust, Boxer Rescue and the Bring Back Brin appeal in aid of a stray dog befriended by the troops in Afghanistan.

Stephen Lloyd congratulated Montys owner, Karen Furley, on having the courage, determination and blind faith needed to start a new business and pull it off. He and was presented with a thank-you bouquet by Eden florists of Old Town before a big cheer went up from crowd and Karen took a well-deserved bow. Wow!
