If it rains...
The Hearne Gallery at Littlehampton Museum is currently a riot of colour thanks to local primary school children, whose garden-themed work is displayed until 10 July. Or pop in later in the month for Dinos of the Deep: exhibits about prehistoric sea creatures who lived off the Sussex coast millions of years ago. As well as pictures and information children can see genuine dinosaur bones.

If it shines...
Settle down for the day on West Beach, the town’s greatest outdoor asset. It’s backed by rolling sand dunes and is a great place to find fossils – check the museum website (above) for guided walks or just poke about yourselves. If you prefer a town beach with a promenade for scooters, head to East Beach where there’s also a fantastic playground. Or walk along to Mewsbrook Park, where you’ll find a boating lake and a miniature railway.
