Earl and Countess of Wessex open Diamond Jubilee Pavilion

The Royal couple visited Brighton College to open the school's new Diamond Jubilee Pavilion

Pupils of Brighton College lined the path to the schools new Diamond Jubilee Pavilion, in brilliant and unexpected sunshine, to welcome the Earl and Countess of Wessex for the formal opening of this wonderful new sports facility at the Colleges New Ground,
East Brighton Park.

The Earl and Countess stopped frequently to talk to delighted pupils in the welcoming line, before moving inside to meet governors and senior staff of the school. The Royal couple applauded the performance of the College Choir that accompanied them as they stepped out onto the sports fields, which overlook the South Downs, to watch matches played by pupils from the College, its prep school and wider family of schools.

After unveiling a plaque of commemoration, they signed the college visitors book. The royal couple seemed delighted by the gifts offered for their children, and Lana Cracknell, a six-year-old pupil of Brighton College Pre-Prep School, was warmly received as she presented the Countess with a posy of flowers.

As the Earl and Countess left, the clouds closed in once more; in a superb break in the weather the royal couple had shared a lovely late afternoon with Brighton College and its pupils in an informal and happy event, whilst marking an important new phase for sport at the school.
