Denton Community Challenge: Saturday 8 June 2019
PUBLISHED: 16:43 26 February 2019
Every year for the last 7 years on an afternoon in June, a dedicated team of volunteers and the Denton Community Challenge Committee transform the Avis Road Recreation ground in the village of Denton, near Newhaven into an amazing family fun event with a sporting theme.
The format of the day is all about giving children a taste of sporting activities and challenges for a small fee. The activities are provided by local sporting groups and charities and the children can take part in as many activities as they like by purchasing a score card.
The event has grown year on year, with over 60 stalls and attractions taking part in 2018.
The 2019 event called ‘Let’s Score’ is set to take place on Saturday 8 June from 1pm-5pm and is already looking like it’s going to be bigger and better than last year.
The day is not principally about fund raising; it provides a fun and inclusive day for families to enjoy and also to raise awareness of the many sporting groups in our locality.
This year, in honour of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the opening ceremony will be performed by Newhaven Football Club ladies, along with performances by Denton School choir, maypole dancers and local VIP’s.
There will be all the usual fete attractions including a wide variety of stalls, bouncy castle, licenced bar and a BBQ kindly provided by the local 2nd Denton & South Heighton Scouts. Teas, coffees and cakes will be on sale in the hall, where you can also browse around the fair selling locally made arts, crafts and produce. The Grand Raffle will be drawn later in the afternoon and the whole day finishes with a huge game of tug of war.
