If you like to see the funny side of life, Sussex has a great choice of comedy to entertain you, from stand-up and musical comedy to Laughter Yoga classes.

Sara Pascoe, Worthing

Matt’s Comedy Club presents comedian and author Sara Pascoe at the Connaught Theatre on 6 July. Sara regularly appears on TV shows, such as QI, Mock the Week and 8 out of 10 Cats, and published her first book last year.;

Comedy for Children, Chichester

The Comedy Club 4 Kids will be holding a family comedy event at the Chichester Festival Theatre on 28 July, featuring comedians Abigoliah Schamaun, Joe Wells and Ben Target.;

Laughter Club, Worthing

The Worthing Laughter Club gets together on the third Saturday of every month at Broadwater Baptist Church for a good giggle. Laughter Yoga exercises improve health and wellbeing by stimulating the release of endorphins, boosting immunity, and lowering blood pressure. The next sessions will be held on 17 June and 15 July.

Comedy Acts, Shoreham

The Ropetackle Arts Centre is a community-run arts venue which hosts regular comedy shows. This summer enjoy Not Lady Chatterley’s Lover (9 June); a comedy musical about Southern Rail (10 June); top comedian and author Kathy Lette (4 July); and the Barnstormers stand-up club on 15 June.

Stand-Up, Arundel

Enjoy stand-up acts every month in the historic prison cells of Arundel. The Jailhouse Screamers Comedy Night takes place every last Friday of the month.

Laughter Yoga, near Chichester

The Chichester Laughter Club meets once a month in Bosham to laugh for fun and for health. Each session involves Laughter Yoga exercises, games and meditation. The next club dates are 24 June and 29 July; newcomers welcome.

Comedy Acts, Petworth

There is a huge variety of comedy performance styles to enjoy at this year’s Petworth Festival (12-29 July), including physical comedy and mime on 14 and 28 July; vocal impressions on 15 July; comedy cabaret on 18 July; and comedy card stunts on 26 July. One of the highlights will be the Radio Active show with Angus Deayton on 26 July, featuring long-suffering radio host Mike Channel, and the HeeBee GeeBees band.

Jimmy Carr, Brighton

See top comedian Jimmy Carr perform his Greatest Hits Gold Tour at the Brighton Dome on 9 July, featuring some of his best jokes, as well as new material.

Katy Brand, Hove and Crawley

Top comedian Katy Brand will perform her hilarious Edinburgh Festival show, I Was a Teenage Christian – about her evangelical youth – at the Old Market in Hove on 24 June, and The Hawth in Crawley on 21 June.;

Laughter Yoga, Brighton

Every Tuesday evening the Brighton Laughter Club comes together for an hour of giggling. The sessions include Laughter Yoga exercises, breathing, games and song, all of which boost immunity, cardiovascular health and endorphin levels. Newcomers welcome.

Enjoy a meal and stand-up by top comedians at the fantastic Krater Comedy Club nights, held at Komedia three or four times a week during June, July and August.;

Improvised Comedy Classes, Hove

Learn the art of comedic timing, performance and musical comedy with The Maydays. As well as a Thursday drop-in class, the comedy company offers eight-week courses in improvisation comedy for all levels.

Stand Up For Refugees, Brighton

Some of the UK’s top comedians will perform together at Brighton Dome on 21 June to raise money for the fantastic Help Refugees charity. Enjoy laughs from Shappi Khorsandi, Tom Allen, Mark Steel, Zoe Lyons and more.

Stand-up, Crawley

Enjoy stand-up laughs at Crawley Comedy Club’s monthly comedy night, at The Hawth, and at The Grasshopper in Tilgate.;;

Hastings Fringe Comedy Festival

This fabulously funny fringe festival is held in eight different venues in Hastings’ Old Town from 14 to 18 June. Enjoy street acts, stand-up and kids’ comedy.

Musical Comedy and Stand-Up, East Grinstead

The Chequer Mead Community Arts Centre will stage a musical comedy on 30 June: Seriously Dead is an hilarious new musical play about a bank robber and a lovesick ghost. Then on 15 September award-winning comic Gary Delaney will perform his new stand-up show There’s Something About Gary.

Stand-Up, Hassocks

Hassocks Comedy is a fantastic monthly stand-up show, compered by Stephen Grant. The next performances will be on 10 June at the Hassocks Hotel, and 28 August at Adastra Hall.

Stand-Up, Peacehaven and East Grinstead

Enjoy top comedians and up-and-coming talent at this award-winning comedy club. Having staged hilarious performances in East Grinstead for eight years, Grinstock recently started putting on shows in Peacehaven as well.

Stand-Up, Lewes

This not-for-profit social club in the centre of Lewes hosts fantastic live music, as well as a monthly comedy night (usually the first Thursday of each month). Members benefit from free entry to many events, and a price reduction at the bar.

Comedy Night, Rye

The Lonestar Comedy Club will host a stand-up evening at The George hotel in Rye on 9 June. Enjoy up-and-coming comedy talent, and food from the George Grill.
