Strange Dichotomy

Old industrial landscapes left to nature have a strangely compelling quality to them, above. They are explored in this exhibition by nationally recognised artist Yana Trevail. Although focusing on the Tamar Valley, the ruined remains serve to remind us of Natures power and the passage of time.

The Sussex Guild Contemporary Craft Show at Hurstpierpoint College
6-7 Nov
A wonderful opportunity to meet and buy direct from more than forty members of the Guild. The stunning contemporary and traditional work on show will include jewellery, ceramics, woodturning, textiles, leatherwork and metalwork. Admission 1.50, children go free.

Brighton Artists Open Houses - the 2010 Christmas Open Houses Festival
More than 70 houses will open during three weekends: November 27-28, December 4-5 and December 11-12
With so many talented artists and makers in the city, the range of work on sale is impressive: paintings, prints, sculpture, ceramics, jewellery, textiles, lighting, home furnishings, cards and even imaginative hand-made Christmas decorations.
Many of the houses are clustered together within walking distance of one another, so it is easy to spend an enjoyable afternoon visiting them.

Eastbourne Artists Open Houses and Studios

The thriving community of visual artists in Eastbourne is again coming together and opening their houses and studios around the town. This year the event runs over two weekends by popular demand with many artists opening on the Friday evenings as well.

Robert Tavener celebrating a lifetime of printmaking

An exhibition of work by printmaker Robert Tavener RE (1920-2004) to coincide with the publication of a new book on Taveners life and work.
Taveners career as a printmaker and illustrator spanned over 50 years. The exhibition will include work from his student days, his early commissions and a broad selection of his linocuts and lithographs. See page 158.

Tony Ray-Jones Photography Exhibition

An exhibition of photographs by Tony Ray-Jones (1941-1972), one of Britain's most influential photographers and a former pupil of Christs Hospital School, Horsham, West Sussex.
Tony Ray-Jones is recognised as a key figure in the history of British photography and is best known for his portrayal of the English.
Private View: Friday 26 November 4-6pm
Art Department, Christs Hospital.
Followed by 6.15pm talk and discussion of Tony Ray-Jones' work and life with Anna Ray-Jones, Photographer Martin Parr and Tate Modern Photography Curator Simon Baker in The Court Room, Christs Hospital.
