Ferring Sea Scouts celebrated their 50th anniversary with scouts past and present enjoying cakes and scones at their hut

Anniversary Day started unpromisingly with rain but this did not deter the enthusiastic group of leaders and parents preparing the hut for the 50th anniversary celebration.

Union, Group and Section flags hung from the rafters; the walls were bedecked with creative artwork, photos from each section and there was an informative stand for the imminent World Jamboree. Display boards down the centre of the hut told of the groups history and the kitchen was stocked with a plentiful supply of cakes and scones. By the time the invitees arrived, the skies had cleared.

The official photograph shows 89 people attended and these included original scout leaders (masters) who not only lead the troop but also built the scout hut! Memories of meetings held in the old school hall, laying the drains and electric supply for the hut and camps to the Norfolk Broads, Eskdale and Glencoe came flooding back.

The Sea Scouts gave a huge thank you to all those involved in the preparation work for the big day, especially to those who attended. Perhaps some of them will be back in 50 years time!
