30 March 2014 between 10.30am and 5.00pm
West Dean Gardens, Near Chichester, West Sussex, PO18 ORX
Treat your mum to a special day out at the award-winning West Dean Gardens this Mothering Sunday (Sunday 30 March) to admire the show stopping displays of spring-blooming bulbs and other garden delights. For this special day only the Gardens are offering half price entry for Adults (£4) and a free bunch of daffodils for all mothers. Children get in FREE all year round.
Bring the whole family, including the dog, for a leisurely stroll and wander through the emerging displays of bulbs, daffodils and cowslips on display throughout the grounds, Arboretum and wild flower meadows. The gardens team at West Dean have planted over 500,000 bulbs to ensure the gardens look spectacular in Spring – look out for Snakes Head Fritillaries, Grape Hyacinth and Scillas.
Take a peek at the newly restored Sunken Garden at the eastern end of the Pergola, step into the Walled Garden and admire the fruit trees coming into blossom amid a carpet of primroses. The glasshouses will be showing new growth on the peach, nectarines and vines and out in the Kitchen Garden see the first protected plantings under cloches and new plantings in the vegetable frame.
Finish your visit with a two and a half mile circular walk around the peaceful Arboretum which offers breaktaking views of the South Downs and West Dean College, followed by a delicious cream tea in the Gardens Restaurant.
