People across Sussex are joining together to remember their loved ones and help raise funds for a vital dementia care home and wellbeing centre.

Guild Care’s ‘A Walk to Remember’ will see hundreds of people walking or running a 5km or 10km route along Worthing’s scenic seafront on the morning of Saturday 11 October. Could you join them?

Whether you know someone with dementia or just want to support a good cause, Guild Care need your help to raise the final £180,000 for their Building a Home to Remember Appeal. The charity hope to open their 60 bedroom dementia care home, Haviland House, complete with the Bradbury Wellbeing Centre, in Worthing later this year, and are tantalisingly close to the fundraising finishing line. The new home and wellbeing centre will care for people at every stage of their dementia journey. This will include advice, support and respite sessions for carers, giving relief from the responsibilities of caring for a loved one, even if just for a few hours a week.

Worthing’s new Town Crier, Councillor Bob Smytherman, took part in the walk last year, he said: “I can’t wait to take part in A Walk to Remember again this year. I chose the 10km route in 2013, and it was truly humbling to see so many people walking through our beautiful town to remember their loved ones. As one of Guild Care’s newest Members, I’d like to invite one and all to join us and help raise funds for a much-needed dementia wellbeing centre and care home.”

The event is open to all – so put the fun back into fundraising and bring your friends, family, children and even your dogs for A Walk to Remember. You can run or walk at your own pace, and with two distances to choose from, it’s the perfect excuse to get fit, raise funds and support our local community.

Entry costs just £10, with special group rates available. Sign up for A Walk to Remember today – visit www.guildcare.org/walk or call 01903 528613 for further information.
