Bass player Herbie Flowers and Shoreham Singers-by-Sea are presenting a grand concert at the Shoreham Centre on Sunday 1 March at 2.30 p.m.

Shoreham audiences will be invited to put a ‘Spring in their Step’ on 1 March. At this special concert at the Shreham Centre, there will be songs from the shows, traditional songs, pop and classical, all in four-part harmony. There will even be something special for St. David’s Day.

he choir was born at one of Herbie Flowers’ Jazz Breakfasts at the Ropetackle Centre when he decided that Ropetackle and Shoreham should have an all-comers choir, and asked for 50 volunteers to make it viable. At the following Jazz Breakfast he announced that 57 people had signed up, and that he would hire a professional choirmaster and accompanist. That was September 2009 and there are now more than 200 members.

Also performing in this concert will be several excellent soloists and three very different “choirs within a choir”. Seven Singers perform madrigals, classical and folk music unaccompanied and in four-part harmony;Seaside Singers are a popular group who specialise in entertaining in Care Homes with singalong arrangements of well-known songs and Bothy Singers, so-called because they rehearse in Herbie’s Bothy (it’s a shed in the garden), are an all-female group singing innovative arrangements.

The concert is at the Shoreham Centre on Sunday 1 at 2.30. Tickets at £6(under 16s £4) are available from The Shoreham Centre: Tel. 01273 454686; email: info@shorehamcentre.co.uk or on the door.
