Brighton Fringe: Residence Pop-Up Restaurant

Brighton Fringe: Residence Pop-Up Restaurant

Brighton again has a new fine-dining restaurant which will this year will add a modern twist on classic dishes from the decade that bought us avocados and space dust.

This year, Residence returns to open its pop-up restaurant at Whitecross Street in Brighton, just five minutes walk from the main station. The Seventies is the era of choice with a themed menu, including a Prawn and Avocado cocktail, Chicken Kiev and Duck a lorange with a dessert list that doesnt forget 70s favourite Crepes suzette flamb. Prices range from 13.50 (lunch and pre-theatre) to 17.50 (dinner) for three courses. As well as the food, there will be an onsite tasting every Wednesday for wine buffs by Henry Butler of Butlers Wine Cellar, with an emphasis placed on local growers and brands.

As with Jamie Olivers chain of restaurants Fifteen, Residence will again be getting students from the catering and hospitality course at City College Brighton working alongside professional chefs and front-of-house staff, to get on the job training.

To keep the local theme going, Residence will also have local artists in on a Friday and Saturday night. These will include Bridget Davies, Jan Irvine and Geo Parkin. Their task is to create a piece of art in front of the diners. At the end of the run, all the artworks will be sold in a silent auction to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Society. Last year, Residence raised 1,500 with their charity silent auction for Age Concern Brighton and Hove.

And to make this dining experience thoroughly personal, diners are asked to bring in photos from their family albums showing them in their resplendent Seventies surroundings/clothing. If people want to send or bring in a picture from their family album taken in the 1970s, then Residence will scan it (with their permission) to use in the projection gallery. The staffs favourites will win a free meal.

And, if youre a tired commuter, there are special discounts on offer when you show your season ticket. For more see www.residencepop-up.com
