Betsy Dadd and Maxwell Wade
For the first exhibition of 2010, the gallery will show the work of two recent Brighton University Fine Art Graduates: Betsy Dadd and Maxwell Wade.
Their work is quite different in that Betsy Dadd produces small oil paintings on board, monoprints drawings and animations whereas Max Wades output includes larger oil paintings on canvas and woodcut prints.
The subject matter of both artists complements each other in terms of subject matter (ethereal figures and loosely painted landscapes) and colour palette (warm colours reds and blues).

Bright Town: landscape drawings of Brighton by Christian Birmingham
Now until 25 April
Bright Town is a new display of chalk pastel drawings by award-winning local artist and illustrator Christian Birmingham. The drawings represent a departure from the childrens book illustration for which Christian Birmingham has an international reputation.
These landscapes are responses to the changing light of Brightons seafront an often very subtle, but characteristically bright, light. The brightness is common to most seaside places where the reflecting sea doubles the light of an unusually large expanse of sky but with the added artificial brightness, even at twilight or night, of a seaside city. Admission is free.

Faade is a site-based project, which brings together local and national artists to create work in response to two town centre locations, in St Leonards and Dover.
The selected artists will create work using video, sound and focusing on ideas about living in an urban environment. There will be events in St Leonards from 27 February to 14 March and in Dover from 17 April to 2 May. The project engages local people in photographing the architecture in their neighbourhood, recalling memorable places and adding to the museum archive.
