The area’s newest retirement village, Charters Village, was officially opened by famed British actress Honor Blackman at a special lunchtime reception.

The former Bond Girl and star of The Avengers, was joined by more than 100 invited guests to celebrate the launch of the £25m development on the site of the former Bush Davies School for dance in East Grinstead.

Ms Blackman spent the morning on a specially guided tour of the village grounds, facilities and showhomes, before mingling with visitors in the village clubhouse over drinks and canapés.

Executive Chairman of Retirement Villages Group Ltd, Nigel Welby, said, “We were delighted to be joined by Honor on what was already a momentous day for the village. Her presence created quite a buzz, it was wonderful to see.”

Following the formal speeches, a plaque was unveiled, with Ms Blackman conducting the official ribbon cutting.

“I am so very impressed with this place, you can tell that a lot of care and effort has gone into creating it,” said Honor.

“You can live life exactly how you want to; be as sociable as you like, perhaps take up a new hobby. You can cook or be catered for – the residents are very lucky,” she added.
