Sussex boasts many beautiful and desirable properties. Here we pick one for your delectation.
Bo-Peep Lane, Alciston East Sussex
Understood to date from the early 19th century, Bo-Peep Barn was sympathetically converted for the current owners, retaining much of the original character of the barn. There is an abundance of honey-coloured timbers, some exposed flint walls and several of the principal rooms have magnificent vaulted ceilings. Large windows take full advantage of the stunning, far- reaching views.
Internally the property provides exceptionally light, spacious and well- proportioned accommodation over two floors. From the drawing room and principal bedroom suite there are magnificent panoramic views. The vaulted entrance hall leads to a spacious kitchen/breakfast room, from which steps lead down to a study, which has a glazed door leading out into the courtyard garden. The drawing room has an attractive open fireplace and a double aspect with three sets of glazed casement doors leading out into the gardens. There is a magnificent vaulted dining room, above which is a superb galleried landing with an adjacent vaulted sitting room.
Of particular note is the generous size of the principal bedroom suite, which again has a vaulted ceiling with exposed timbers and large windows taking full advantage of the stunning views.
The barn, together with the open- sided sitting area and storerooms, form a pretty, sheltered courtyard bordered on the fourth side, in part, by a brick and flint wall. Within the courtyard there is a central lawn bordered by a stone and brick path, there are also stone paved seating areas and an ornamental water feature. To the west and north of the barn there are further lawned areas, also a greenhouse and some raised vegetable beds. From the garden there are some wonderful views to the South Downs.
Bo-Peep Barn is situated in a beautiful rural setting. The property lies in an elevated position, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, within the South Downs National Park and close to the foot of the South Downs. Bo-Peep Barn lies on a no through road, between the picturesque villages of Alciston and Firle. A nearby bridleway gives access to both villages, each of which has a church and popular public houses as well as direct access to the Downs providing wonderful opportunities for walking, riding and recreation. The coastline, at the Seven Sisters Country Park lies about six miles to the south. Beyond Alciston lies the larger village of Alfriston, which provides a general store, Post Office and delicatessen, together with a range of further shops and a number of public houses and restaurants.
