My design studio is right at the top of the house, says Sandra Isaksson. Its quiet, calm and filled with beautiful things that inspire me. As much as I adore being creative however, my favourite space is downstairs amid the chaos and noise of family life.
We have a simple, polished wooden floor and in the Swedish tradition, visitors and family all leave their shoes by the door. The dining table overlooking the garden is where we all gather to eat but it has to be an impromptu homework space and art studio for my sons as well.
Inevitably, the house is filled with Isak products. What drives me is a desire to create a world of safe, happy beautiful things for any family including my own. The space is constantly changing and I like to keep it fresh, not only with seasonal flowers but with things we have found a wonderful vase for example or even pebbles from the beach nearby.
My design influences are very Swedish but are also informed by my travels and interests. The colour palette and designs I find myself drawn to have a retro feel to them. Some of my most popular designs feature my fictional characters Blossom and Bill who seem to have taken on a life of their own, along with their friends Olle and Inge who have pride of place over our fireplace and tend to raise eyebrows amongst our visitors because they are not wearing very much!
The boys have their stuff in their own bedrooms but our downstairs space is piled high with toys as well. I always try my best to impose some sense of order so it can be a cosy and calm environment for me and my husband Nick to relax in the evening by the fire.
