We round up 4 Sussex spots away from the hustle and bustle that you should consider this Valentine’s Day

Amberley Castle, Amberley

A popoular honeymoon spot, the castle is equally as romantic for couples wishing to venture off the beaten track and get away from the world – which is what you really feel like you’ve done, having driven down the winding drive and been greeted by reams of crests and coats of armour – it really does feel like you’ve stepped back in time. The food is exquisite and the atmosphere formal but welcoming – you’ll be treated like royalty and the discreet service will ensure that the evening is all yours.

The Hatch Inn, Ashdown Forest

This landmark public house is located in the heart of Ashdown Forest, close to the Winnie the Pooh bridge. They have built an enviable reputation over the years for producing the highest quality, locally sourced food, complimented by an extensive wine list. There are two large gardens for summer dining with vistas to the forest, and you really do feel like you’ve left everyday life behind, and stepped into a place of your very own.

The Curlew, Bodiam

Just a few minutes away from the beautiful Bodiam Castle, The Curlew brings fine dining to the heart of the countryside. A former Coaching Inn, The Curlew Restaurant looks like you typical country pub and restaurant from the exterior, with its white weatherboard façade, but step inside and you’ll find a whole other world. The dining room is sleek, elegant and simple with matt polished wood and gunmetal grey walls. The Curlew Restaurant is one very special secluded dining destination, and one that Sussex is extremely proud to call its own.

Ockenden Manor, Cuckfield

Nestled down a private countryside lane, Ockenden Manor is an impressive Elizabethan establishment. The restaurant sits overlooking the immaculate gardens and offering stunning views across the South Downs. The dining room is the perfect setting for a seriously good gastronomical experience, which leaves you feeling both pampered and protected from the bustle of the outside world. Head Chef Steven Crane creates accomplished seasonally changing menus, using the very finest, locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. This is fine dining at its very best, with impeccable food and an impeccable, hidden setting to match.
