The 2015 Celebration of Sussex Life Awards are finally here, with the ceremony taking place at the Hilton Brighton Metropole on 1 October. Here, we introduce our finalists

Butcher of the Year

Cowdray Farm Shop & Café, Midhurst - “We’re delighted to be nominated for this prestigious award. Our butchery plays an important part in linking us to our Estate farming enterprise and the land which surrounds us.”

Southdowns Venison and Game, Petworth - “We set up and launched South Downs Venison and Game in 2008. Our aim is to sell and produce first class wild venison and game direct to our customers – we’re delighted to be nominated.”

Coughtrey’s Butchers, Pulborough - “We are delighted to announce that we have made the final, and would like to thank all our customers who took the time to nominate us.”

Tea/Coffee Shop of the Year

The Wishing Well, Wilmington - “We are delighted that customers and readers have nominated us for such a prestigious award – to be finalists in two categories speaks volumes for our staff and our tearoom.”

Baked Worthing - “It is a great compliment and privilege to be a nominee this year. Thank you to all our customers for their continued support (and love of our cake and coffee).”

Serious Sandwich, Chichester - “We are so proud at Serious Sandwich to have been selected as a finalist. In a short space of time our enthusiastic team has worked hard to implement the healthy changes we have envisioned. Thank you to all of our fabulous customers.”

Food and Drink Innovation

Massis Tea, Warninglid - “We’re honoured to be in the finals – to have our customers love our Tey® products enough to vote us through to finals is incredibly thrilling...thank you all for your support.”

Higgidy, Shoreham-By-Sea - “We are excited about this particular award because innovation has always been at the heart of Higgidy, right from the pies made in my kitchen until now, with a 250 strong team.”

Wobblegate Juice and Cider, Bolney - “We were thrilled to find out that we were finalists in this category. We’re always trying to create new and exciting products. Being nominated by our customers is the icing on the cake.”

Best Family Dining

The Loft at Sparks Yard, Arundel - “We are so excited to be finalists in this category. We work really hard to make families feel welcome and children feel important. We are really proud of our business and of our team and this recognition means a lot.”

The Hearth Pizzeria & Bakehouse, Lewes - “It’s an amazing honour to be a finalist. This has put a smile on the face and a spring in the step of the whole team and we can’t thank our customers enough for taking the time to nominate us.”

Best Community Pub

The George at Burpham - “To be recognised and nominated by our customers in the Best Community Pub category is a great honour and a wonderful endorsement of what we set out to achieve two years ago.”

Sussex Visitor Attraction

Drusillas Park, Alfriston - “We are delighted to be nominated in two categories this year – Visitor Attraction of the Year and Tourism Ambassador. It’s a prestigious award and a huge honour – we are keeping our fingers crossed!”

Weald & Downland Open Air Museum, Singleton - “We are excited to be finalists for this award, which is a fantastic endorsement of our designated historic building collection and testament to our dedicated team of staff and volunteers.”

Pells Pool, Lewes - “The Pells is a unique place saved by the local community in 2000. It is thriving today, drawing people from all over Sussex and beyond. Restaurant of the Year

Samphire Restaurant, East Wittering - “It is so exciting for Samphire, East Wittering to be part of such a big award and an amazing honour to have been nominated by our customers.”

Services to the Community

Seaford Musical Theatre Juniors (SMTJ) - “We have nearly 100 young members all striving to make our community a more pleasant place to live through performing, volunteering and fundraising. We are delighted to have been named as finalists.”

Fareshare Sussex, Brighton - “FareShare are thrilled to be nominated for a Services to the Community award. Our dedicated team works hard delivering surplus food to the most vulnerable and it’s wonderful to have that acknowledged.”

Sussex Tourism Ambassador

Brighton Pride - “As we have just celebrated our 25th Anniversary of Pride in our City and raised a record-breaking £100,000 for local good causes, we are honoured to have been nominated for this award.”

Sussex Life Hospitality Hero

Lord March, Goodwood Estate - “My team and I are focused every day on creating the most emotionally engaging and exclusive experiences for everyone who comes to Goodwood, which makes being recognised for the quality of our hospitality all the more rewarding.”

West Dean Gardens Chilli Fiesta - “Chilli Fiesta has gone from strength to strength since 1995 and it is fantastic to be nominated for this prestigious award in its 20th anniversary year, which attracted a record-breaking 25,000 festival-goers.”

Melanie Mcalpine, Fishers Farm Park - “I feel honoured to have been nominated. It means the world to me, particularly as I am celebrating my 25th year of welcoming visitors to Fishers Farm Park.”
