Lavant House, an outstanding independent day and boarding school for girls aged 4 – 18 years, opens its doors on Tuesday 13 January for an open morning from 9:30 – 12 noon.

An open morning is an ideal opportunity for you to assess the school, experience a typical working day, meet the teachers and pupils and obtain answers to any questions you may have.

The Headmistress-designate Mrs. Nicola Walker will be available during the morning or at the evening reception commencing at 7pm.

Mrs. Walker has taught in both the Independent and the Maintained Sectors and thus brings a wealth and breadth of experience to her new role. Like Lavant House’s present Headmistress, Mrs Walker is a Mathematician, having studied this subject at the University of Lancaster and completed her PGCE at St Edmund Hall, Oxford. She also has an MBA in Educational Management from Leicester University, an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Buckingham and her National Professional Qualification for Headship from the National College of School Leadership. In addition she is an Estyn Inspector (the Welsh equivalent of ISI and OfStEd).

Mrs Walker said “I am so proud to be appointed Headmistress at Lavant House. I am eager to meet all the students, staff and parents. Lavant House is truly exceptional and when I first visited the school I immediately recognised the warm family ethos and stimulating environment that inspires its pupils to achieve their best.”

Mrs Walker is keen to build upon the excellent foundations already established by the current Head, Mrs Horton and her staff. “Lavant House is clearly a school where the future of every pupil matters. Being a Head is a great privilege and I am looking forward to the challenges it will bring. Teaching in a GSA school again is like coming home.”

“The reason why parents choose Lavant House is due to its traditional values where students have a strong sense of responsibility and integrity. Hard work always produces results. Lavant House demonstrates this to all who visit.”
