Ashdown House is an independent preparatory boarding school for boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 13. It prides itself on being one of the last remaining all boarding schools in the country, although it has a very small number of younger day children.

Ashdown House Prep School head Dominic Floyd loves writing, Take That

and Spooks but doesn't have a soft spot for corned beef hash or Physics

If you hadnt become a teacher, what do you think you would have done instead?
Advertising or Journalism. I have always loved writing and becoming a journalist seemed an attractive option. I have been writing a childrens novel for the last eight years! The advertising world also appealed to me. I admire the creativity and originality of our
best adverts.

Who would you most like to have as a pupil, if you could pick anyone?
Somebody naughty and with a sparkle in their eye Dawn French or Lenny Henry would I am sure have been punchy pupils with some unforgettable moments. I have always liked teaching children with oodles of character and heart.

Was there any type of school dinner that you couldnt stand?
Corned beef hash. Good old- fashioned prep school fodder followed down with a quick glug of water! Liver was never a favourite either.
What was your favourite lesson? English Literature. I adore reading books and was inspired at school not only by great teaching but also by the range and choice of books we read and discussed. A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mystry would be one of my top three books.

Was there ever one you wish you could have missed?
Physics. I blame it on the teacher! You always remember a good teacher but one never forgets a poor one either. It should be a fascinating subject but it never ticked my box.

So, your Desert Island discWhich record would you want with you if you were marooned on a desert island?
The Whole of the Moon by The Waterboys. Uplifting, invigorating and makes you want to sing and dance!

Do you have a favourite current artist or song?
Take That or Snow Patrol. My whole family adore Take That and their recent comeback has been sensational.
Is there a television programme that you make sure you never miss?
Spooks or The Apprentice. Quality drama on both fronts!
Like the rest of the population, I always yell at the stupidity of the Apprentice candidates but cannot fail to be addicted to the programme and the various tasks they are given.

How do you relax away from work?
Ski, surf, swim, golf, walk the dog and spend quality time with my wife and children. I love getting out and about (preferably by the sea or in
the mountains).
