Brighton Art Fair

Guide to the current and up and coming art events in Sussex...

Coastal Currents 2009

Now until 13 Sept

Coastal Currents is a vibrant visual arts and moving image festival in Hastings and Rother, now in its tenth year. This year's theme is Hidden Hastings, which will peel back the layers of creativity and the unique spaces in the town such as twittens, lofts and cellars, making what's hidden visible and vibrant. The festival will include a wide range of events and exhibitions, plus talks and artists' residency projects within empty shop buildings.

The Open Studios programme will also run through September in Hastings and Rother.

The Glory of the Garden

The Glory of the Garden takes us back to the heady days of mid-summer and the rich abundance of nature. The paintings celebrate the glories of the English garden, and these artists' individual response to the subject.

War Stories from Home Front

29 Sept - Jan 2010

War Stories tells the story of the Home Front in Brighton and Hove during the Second World War, using photographs from the archive of the Brighton Herald newspaper.

The images remind us of many aspects of wartime experience, including air raid precautions, evacuees, bomb damage, funding drives, troop parades and the great victory celebrations.

The exhibition also includes extracts from the Herald newspaper, which help tell the stories behind the events and characters portrayed in the photographs. Free admission.
