The Designer
Danielle Joyce graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2000 and has been working for Burgess Hill-based company Scheme & Co for two and a half years. Before this Danielle was one of the main presenters on BBC1's House Invaders.

Scheme & Co has a team of qualified and extremely talented interior designers based in 35 locations around Britain. Working on a number of residential and commercial projects including boutique hotel Drakes of Brighton, they pride themselves on not being dictated by a house style – their role is to listen, interpret and come up with both creative and practical solutions.

The look
THE living room and dining room had not been decorated since the mid-Eighties, and with its pastel tones of cream, pink and mint green, the decor had a very Miami Vice feel to it. The husband and wife both worked in high-powered jobs so an important part of the design brief was to achieve a feeling of calm and tranquillity. They wanted to come home to a space that felt like they were in a five star Bali beach house, which worked well with the double doors opening out on to their decked garden and swimming pool. 

The design needed to be simplistic in colour with natural fabrics to achieve the Bali holiday feel. The curtains are formed of two layers of muslin; a dark colour at the back with a light colour attached only at the top with a wave heading. An L-shaped sofa in cream linen adds a laid back feel to the room and contrasts well with the dark wood Lombok furniture and dark neutral walls. 

The shape of the room is long and narrow so the day bed is positioned facing the L-shaped sofa to break up the space as well as create a cosy social area. To anchor the day bed a console table is positioned behind it which also creates an area to showcase objects and pictures.

Double doors into the dining room continue this theme with a wall of double layered muslin creating a backdrop to the dark wood table. The couple’s tinted mirrored wall remains as it works well in the setting and provides a dark, intimate feel to the room. Finishing touches such as the clear glass accessories and a full vase of Calle Lilies on the sideboard give the space a touch of glamour.
