It’s a very traditional looking public house but with a tiny bar area and the rest given over to a tasteful, rustic restaurant, all natural flooring, neutral colours and lovely old scrubbed tables and heavy chairs. It’s amazing how stylish a square table can look when it’s placed on the diagonal in a room and not square on against the wall.

The place seems to be something of an institution, with a firmly established reputation for excellent food. There has been an award too - the Morning Advertiser has recently crowned it Meridian Best Gastropub (that word - argh!) 2006.
