WE HAVE a first for Sussex Life in this issue in that we’ve interviewed someone who was actually banned from the county.

Although this might at first seem like an odd choice, Emily Gravett’s story is a remarkable one. She left school and, with few qualifications, joined a group of travellers and was not welcome in shops, pubs or pretty much anywhere else.

But after the birth of her daughter she enrolled on a part-time art course that would set her on a path to success. Turn to page 120 to see how she turned from Sussex outcast to award-winning children’s author.

The theme of success continues with the Sussex Life Rich List. It’s back for its second year and shows that, despite the economic gloom, Sussex multimillionaires are in healthy financial shape.

Once again we asked Sunday Times journalist Philip Beresford to put together the list and collectively the county’s top 50 are worth a staggering £9.7 billion. You’ll need £20m to be included this year and there’s even a new Number One. Turn to page 103 to see who they are and the rest of this elite group.

You’ll find another success story in the first of a new series called The Producers. Each month we’ll be bringing you stories from food and drink suppliers across the county and we kick things off with the legendary Lewes brewery, Harveys. Turn to page 218 for a behind the scenes look at this fantastic Sussex company.

Finally, we’d also like to invite you to join one of the Sussex Life Reader Panels that we’re holding over the next few months.

So if you’ve always wanted to meet the team and tell us what you think of the magazine please get in touch. You can contact us via email or send us a letter to the address in our contact page..

And of course we’d be delighted to hear your thoughts on anything to do with the magazine and especially your views on the woman once banned from Sussex, Emily Gravett.

Enjoy your Sussex Life.
