Archant

As well as being practical, tiles can add class, colour and style to your home. With such spectacular choice, you might feel like a kid in a sweet shop, so many delicious options. Luxury bathroom, kitchen and tile experts Sussex Plumbing Supplies (SPS) have selected the top tile styles and tips to help you make the right choice for your space.

Size matters

Consider the room size and shape when selecting your tiles. A large space such as a kitchen diner will accommodate oversized tiles and accentuate the space. Equally, large tiles in smaller rooms will help give the illusion of space as fewer grout lines help open up the room – even more so when teamed with light tones.

These marble effect 59.6cm x 59.6cm polished tiles are perfect for creating a lavish kitchen or bathroom.

At the other end of the size spectrum are intricate mosaic tiles, available in interesting and edgy designs like Porcelanosa’s Avenue shown below. It’s on-trend grey tone gives a cool urban appeal. When paired with other sized tiles mosaics will create a contemporary, considered interior.

Colour your world

Get the benefits of a hardwearing, durable tile but with the warmth and look of wood using wood textured tiles. Available in a variety of colours, the PAR-KER range from Porcelanosa is ideal for areas of the home prone to high footfall such as the hall, but also bathrooms and kitchens due to its water resistant properties.

Which way to lay

When considering the size, pattern and style, don’t forget to take into account how you want your tiles to lay. This may be dictated by the tile’s design but is often down to personal preference. There are many different options but we’ve picked the most popular:

TilesTiles

• Herringbone – very popular, especially for kitchens

• Straight/linear – simple yet effective, if your tiles have a lot going on then this is a good option

• Brick bond – a timeless style which can be done in different ways depending on the size and position of the tiles.
