Following the success from last year’s St Michael’s Hospice Open Gardens, which raised over £36,000, they have now launched their 2018 season

The breath-taking collection of private gardens span the breadth of Hastings and Rother, and this season 40 gardens will be opening across 14 days from 1 May to August, including gardens in Winchelsea, Northiam, Westfield, Udimore, Hastings Old Town and Mountfield, all in aid of the Hospice.

Visiting Open Gardens gives you the opportunity to gather inspiration for your own garden, you can pick up some interesting planting ideas and talk to the garden owners who are only too happy to give advice and tips on their different plants and flowers.

Each week you will be tempted by a delicious selection of homemade refreshments, and a fantastic range of stalls selling pre-loved items from the St Michael’s Hospice Retail team and the ever popular plant stall. Over the last few months Jill, one of the Hospice’s retail volunteers, has been busy squirrelling away lots of vintage bric a brac, making it impossible to leave empty handed.

New 2018 Open Gardens greetings cards will be also be available to buy, which show case some of the previously opened gardens. Or if you’re looking for a unique gift, why not treat your friends and family to an Open Garden gift voucher?

The Hospice Open Gardens simply couldn’t run without the help of the volunteering team. This year the Hospice is looking for additional volunteers. Marilyn has been volunteering at the Hospice Open Gardens for the last two years and said, “We have so many beautiful gardens in this area, but I hadn’t realised just how many wonderful private gardens there are. So a chance to not only help such a worthwhile cause, but to visit them is something I am so looking forward to again this year. It’s such fun, I have made excellent friends and met some lovely people, plus I get the chance to treat myself to some plants at the plant stall”
