Outstanding Customer Service

A good waiter or waitress can make the difference between a good meal and a great one. Similarly a welcoming pub landlord or landlady can add a sense of occasion, a concierge can transform a hotel visit and an attentive and knowledgeable assistant can turn shopping into a fascinating experience.

Local Tea/Coffee Shop

In the past two decades the tea and coffee shop has increased its importance as the place to catch up on what’s happening locally and to work. This award is about those businesses which offer not just a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, but also the best in Sussex produce and the finest coffee.

Best Sussex Pub

Times have been hard for the pub industry over the years with the closure of rural drinking spots and the rise of big chains. We want to celebrate those pubs boasting a unique character, which provide a heart to a community as well as a bar stocked with the county’s best brews.

Restaurant of the Year

It’s not just about the food – although obviously that is important for a restaurant. We’re looking for venues with the most welcoming staff, most interesting focus and warmest atmosphere which champion Sussex produce.

Hotel of the Year

Judges are looking for those hotels which provide a warm welcome, luxury accommodation and excellent facilities, from restaurants and bars to swimming pools and gyms.

Best Newcomer

Celebrating the latest additions to the Sussex scene, this award is aimed at businesses launched in the last 18 months which are already making a difference to the county.

Services to the Community

This award is for people who give back to where they live. It can be awarded to individuals or groups for charity fundraising, community facilities or not-for-profit organisations.

Food and Drink Product of the Year

Celebrating the best home-grown or home-produced products from the county, whether that is a literal cottage industry selling to its surrounding area, or a major UK brand created in Sussex.

Spa of the Year

Given today’s modern busy lifestyles it’s important to have a space where visitors can let their hair down, relax and recharge. Whether it’s a small high street beauty parlour or a large complex out in the Sussex countryside we want to hear about the best.

Farm Shop of the Year

Any chef will tell you the importance of fresh ingredients in their dishes, and it doesn’t come fresher than from a farm shop. This award celebrates those with the best customer service offering a carefully considered range of Sussex produce.

Event of the Year

This might be a festival, music or theatre highlight or a much-loved fixture on the rural calendar.

Best Green Company (sponsored by Green People)

Environmentally friendly thinking has been a big part of the business scene in the past three decades, but we’re looking for the companies that put their money where their mouth is. Everything they do is designed to preserve our county and make the world a better place.

High Street Hero

These are the stalwart town and village shops which have gone the extra mile to help their local community and provide an unbeatable service.

Visitor Attraction of the Year (sponsored by Seaford College)

We are looking for the place where visitors are guaranteed a good day out, somewhere which shows Sussex at its best, but is also good value and in tune with the local environment.

Sussex Life Hero

This award is for the person who has made a tangible difference to Sussex – through their life, their charity work or volunteering. Previous winners have included crime novelist and charity supporter Peter James, Kathy Gore of Friends of Sussex Hospices and cardiologist Douglas Chamberlain.
